Join Bebo Darwin
Not many people know this, but there is a special feature on Bebo called Darwin. You may have seen some profiles saying something like 'Darwin Level 4 Contestant' at the top - That's Darwin! Most people havn't heard of Darwin, or know what it is, so i'm going to tell you about it and let you know how to get involved.
Overview:
Darwin is a place where Bebo users get involved as a community to accumulate votes to move up the Darwin Group Ranks. Contestants set fellow group members challenges, allocating their votes to winners. Contestants move up and down groups according to how many points they have.
Background:
Firstly, the name 'Darwin' obviously comes from Charles Darwin's theory of evolution - "Natural Selection" or "Survial of the fittest". When Darwin started on the 1st November 2007, the system worked differently, the top 10 contestants in a group with most votes moved up to the next level - imitating the "Survival of the fittest" theory. But now the system works differently, but they kept the original name Darwin. Bebo wanted Darwin to be very much a voluntary and community run feature, so they set up the "Darwin Contestants Syndicate" or more commonly known as "The Syndicate".
How it works
Once you have read the Rules, you are ready to join Darwin. Go to www.bebo.com/Darwin.jsp
and wait for a group to become available. Then join one of them, if you
get in then you are now apart of Darwin! You will then notice your
group name and number will appear on your profile soon. So now get to
know your fellow contestants, set a challenge and give out votes and do
other peoples challenges to earn votes. You can only vote half way
through the week, this gives you time to get to know your fellow
contestants.
Points
Each
week Darwin will work out how many 'points' you have. Your points total
is
equal to your current Group Level Number multiplied by the number of
votes you received minus the number of votes that you failed to cast.
Darwin will then repopulate the pyramid of groups putting the people
with most 'points' in the highest level group and working down. They
will
populate groups until all Level 3 and above groups are full and all
Level 2 groups have 8 members each. If you don't have enough points to
fill one of the available slots then you're out the game. You can move
up or down!

Official Syndicate Rules:
Joining a Group
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- You
must be a real person. You must have a validated email address and a
profile photo, and any other criteria we see fit to determine 'real' :)
- Duplicate
accounts managed by the same person will result in both members being
kicked out of Darwin. You can only enter once at a time.
- There
is a countdown of 7 days, when the countdown reaches 0 seconds members
can join groups. This happens at 7pm GMT on Thursdays.
- First 16 people to click on a group once the countdown has expired will become members of their chosen group.
- Any
group with less than 16 members can be joined. These will either be
level 1 groups or level 2, by being early you have more chance of going
straight into a level 2 group.
- You only get one click per week. Click too early or on more than one group and you've lost your chance.
Voting- Once in a group you have 10 votes to allocate to other members of the group.
- You can allocate a maximum of 3 votes to any other single member in your group.
- You can not vote for yourself.
- Each
week we will work out how many 'points' you have. Your points total is
equal to your current Group Level Number multiplied by the number of
votes you received minus the number of votes that you failed to cast.
- We will then repopulate the pyramid of groups putting the people with most 'points' in the highest level group and working down.
- We'll
populate groups until all Level 3 and above groups are full and all
Level 2 groups have 8 members each. If you don't have enough points to
fill one of the available slots then you're out the game.
- You can move both up levels and down levels.
The End of the Game- Every week we will add one new level to the pyramid of groups. The size of the game will therefore grow exponentially.
- Once
a full week has passed but there are not enough new contestants to fill
all the vacancies then the game will end. Part of the objective of
Darwin is to see how big it can become. Like all 'pyramid schemes' they
eventually implode. We want it to be the largest reality game in the
world and this is a fun way of trying to acheive that. (We're
ambitious, we know!)
Final Words:
Darwin requires you to be very active in earning votes and giving them out. We recommend you get to know your fellow contestants and set interesting challenges for them. Darwin solely relies on the possitive input of its users so please get involed and have fun, Good Luck!
